Back in the 1970s, James Dunn was busy working as a lead bicycle mechanic at Milwaukee-based, Rainbow Jersey bike shop, then located on the city's east side across from the University of Wisconsin. He also happened to be teaching bicycle repair clinics during that time. The clinics became so popular that the late, Ev O'Hare, a producer and bicycle enthusiast from Milwaukee Public Television (PBS), contacted Dunn and asked him to help write and host a 13-part television series about bicycling. As luck and good timing would have it, the series, which was named, Spokesman, began airing coast-to-coast on the national PBS system in 1983. It
was the very happy neighbor of the gardening series, Crockett's Victory Garden, for about four years on Saturday mornings. As the expression goes, the rest is history. Today Dunn tunes the bicycles of performance athletes and touring enthusiasts in and around his Whitefish Bay neighborhood, through what evolved into a dedicated hobby business. "I have always enjoyed how cycling invigorates people," he says. "I enjoy contributing to that."
Dunn's primary work is as an independent writer/producer for marketing and documentary audio-video productions. He also manages marketing and licensing for the photographic works of Jill Bedford, whose hand-printed, darkroom photography has won numerous Best of Show Awards at juried art festivals around the country. "You clearly have the mechanical knowledge to provide the best bicycle tune-up possible and the commitment and passion to reach beyond expectations to help make our bikes the best they can be. They ride not just as good as new, but better!"
